Romana's Pilates Instructor Training Program Requirements for Animo Pilates Studio

INTRODUCTION

Animo Pilates is pleased to be a training studio for the Romana's Pilates Instructor Training Program (ITP) in Austin Texas.  This program is designed to teach the deep knowledge of the exercises and safety standards that Romana Krysanowska believed was necessary to become an elite Pilates Instructor. With the network of Instructor Trainers from the Romana’s Pilates Studio in Fort Lauderdale; The Pilates Connection Chicago (TPC)in Evanston, Il and Park Cities Pilates Center Dallas (PCPC) you will receive the information and support needed to reach the exacting standards of teaching that Romana wanted from all of her instructors. She would tell us, “I am giving you something you cannot learn from a book.” Mr. Pilates believed Romana was the person who most understood his method and the most likely to spread his work to the world. Mr. and Mrs. Pilates both entrusted Romana with all that she needed to develop a curriculum that would certify apprentices and inspire teachers to grow and know how to study his method. The program is designed to grow with you as your body becomes stronger and your mind becomes sharper.

The program usually takes nine to eighteen months to complete. This timeline is designed to follow the mind and body development of the apprentice. There are three standards of proficiency (Introduction, Development and Mastery) for each stage (Basic, Intermediate, Advanced). At the Introductory stage information is delivered through the seminars and private lessons. The Development stage is reserved for independent study, written case studies, observation hours, private lessons, workshops, studio meetings/discussions, and labs. The Mastery stage prepares the apprentice for private lessons with higher ranked instructors to identify gaps in learning, critical thinking, collaboration and ethical behavior to pass the test-out. The ranking of Instructors in Roman’s Pilates goes from five to one with one being instructors with the highest esteem within our organization;

Levels of Roman’s Pilates Instructors
New Instructors entrusted to teach the Method in its entirety - Level V
Instructors entrusted as ambassadors and assistants, to guide apprentices through stages - Level IV
Instructors who are entrusted with delivering the Basic Seminar and its test - Level III
Instructors who are entrusted with delivering the Intermediate Seminar and its test - Level II
Instructors who are entrusted with delivering the Advanced Seminar and the Final Cumulative Exam - Level I

The Romana’s Pilates website, gives an excellent example of how our training program works. Currently, 700 hours of observation are needed for the program. Animo Pilates has a level four instructor and PCPC has a level three instructor who will help you achieve this requirement. For the Seminars, you must travel to either PCPC for the Basic, or take all three at Romana’s Pilates Fort Lauderdale or The Pilates Connection Chicago.  Higher leveled teachers from Fort Lauderdale or Chicago may be brought to PCPC if their schedules permit and there are enough apprentices to make the trip affordable. For testing, it is recommended that you schedule your assessment with the Instructor Trainer who has taught its corresponding Seminar.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTERING THE PROGRAM

Three things are needed. A commitment to your hours of observation, A strong understanding of the Intermediate level in your own body, and an Initial assessment with an interview.

Prior to starting the program you must commit to a minimum of fifteen hours a week or sixty hours a month toward your observation hours; along with the dates and times for your scheduled seminars. These hours form the backbone of your apprenticeship where you will develop the abilities needed to teach Pilates to clients and truly understand how different bodies need different exercises and modifications. These hours are in place as a means to gain proficiency in the knowledge and understanding of Pilates. To begin the program, you must be at a strong Intermediate Level on the Universal Reformer and Mat: and a strong Basic level on all other pieces of equipment (Cadillac, chairs, barrels and auxiliary equipment.) This will be decided by a Level IV or higher, Romana’s Pilates trained instructor. To date, it has taken candidates between fifty and one hundred private lessons before a they are prepared to enter the RP certification program. In all, it will show us how the Pilates Method has been trained into your body.

You must have an interview, along with your initial assessment into the program. The interviewer will ask you questions like but not limited to; Why are you seeking certification?, and What are your plans, should you receive certification?
